Challenges Open Our Hearts
Don’t quit before the miracle
When we are going through personal trials and tribulations, it can feel like a test of faith. Sometimes life’s challenges push us to our limits, and we beg for mercy. Maybe we find ourselves talking to a God we haven’t spoken to in a decade, Googling “ayahuasca ceremonies near me,” or eating french fries dipped in milkshakes for dinner every night.
When you are going through it, and someone tells you “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” or “pull yourself up by your bootstraps,” you might want to say “f*ck you.” You can’t see the blessing in disguise yet because the disguise is pretty good — like Hollywood makeup artist good.
It is so hard to see clearly when we are suffering, and “looking on the bright side,” doesn’t take away our pain when we experience a major hardship.
Our culture is so obsessed with the idea of feeling good all the time, but it’s a trap. The human experience is full of a range of feelings- light, dark, the full rainbow spectrum.
You are not weak for experiencing pain, you are strong. Most people are too scared to “go there”- afraid of the darkness in themselves and in life. They attempt to swat away at their emotions like a fly- numbing with alcohol, shopping, scrolling, etc. and “positive vibes only.” But just like debt or the pile of…
